The Cowslip is a popular spring plant that blooms at about the same time as the wood anemone. It grows on pastureland and at the edge of woods, on clay or calcareous soil. It avoids being devoured because the whole plant is poisonous. The cowslip is an old medicinal plant whose roots and flowers were used to induce perspiration. The roots were also used to brew a expectorant infusion.
